Self-Worth Workshop by They Are The Future

This workshop is for you if…

  • Your child seems uncertain about who they are or what matters to them
  • They compare themselves to others and come off worse, every time
  • You want to give them something real: not a motivational poster, but a proper tool they will keep coming back to
  • You would love a conversation-starter that gets beneath the surface, without feeling forced
  • You want to do something together that actually makes a difference to their confidence and mental health

Self-worth isn't something children just pick up on their own

You see your child doubting themselves. Maybe they say they're not good at anything, or they measure their worth by how many likes they get, how well they do in tests, or whether they're in the popular group this week.

It's hard to watch. And it's hard to know what to do about it, because telling them to "just be more confident" doesn't work. You've probably tried that.

What actually works, and what psychologists like me use in clinical practice, is helping a young person build a clear, stable sense of identity. That means knowing what matters to them, deep down. Their values. The things that are genuinely theirs, not borrowed from social media or shaped by peer pressure.

When a child knows their values and starts living by them a little bit each day, something shifts. They stop measuring themselves against other people's yardsticks. They start measuring themselves against their own.

That's what this workshop does.

Dr Lucy Russell, Clinical Psychologist

I'm Dr Lucy Russell, and I've spent over 20 years helping children feel better about themselves

I qualified as a clinical psychologist from Oxford University in 2005. I worked in the NHS, then founded Everlief Child Psychology in 2012 with my husband Mike. Our team now includes more than 30 clinicians, and we've supported over 5,000 families.

One of the things I work on most in clinical practice, with children of all ages, is self-worth. Not self-esteem in the abstract, woolly sense. Real self-worth, built on understanding what a child genuinely values and helping them live closer to that, day by day.

I designed this workshop to bring that same process home. To give you the tools and the framework so you and your child can have the conversations that actually matter.

I'm also a parent. I know how hard it can be to find the right way in. This workshop gives you a gentle structure to do it together.

Why values? And why does this approach work?

This is the part where I want to give you the psychology behind what we're doing, because I think you deserve to understand it, not just trust me.

People who have clear values and live in accordance with them have better mental health. They have a stronger sense of meaning and purpose. They are more protected from anxiety and depression.

That's not a motivational claim. It's what the research consistently shows, and it's what I see in clinical practice.

The key word is live in accordance with. It's not enough to know your values in theory. What matters is doing something, even something small, that connects to each value regularly. That's what builds the internal sense of "I know who I am, and I'm living as that person."

For children and teenagers, this is especially important. They're at a stage where identity is forming rapidly. What they absorb about themselves now shapes how they feel about themselves for years to come.

Start with just one thing. One value. One small action today. That's how this process works.

What's inside the Self-Worth Workshop

Five bite-sized lessons, a bonus mini-workshop, and two printable tools. Watch together in under an hour, and return to it whenever you need.

Introduction

Why Self-Worth, and Why Values?

I explain the psychology behind this workshop: why values are the foundation of self-worth and what you'll both walk away with. You'll also meet Pippa, my 12-year-old niece, who demonstrates each exercise alongside me throughout.

Lesson 1

Introduction to Values Cards

Your child sorts their printed values cards into Yes, No, and Maybe piles. Each card represents a different value: things like kindness, creativity, fairness, independence. There are no right or wrong answers. This is about what genuinely resonates with them.

Lesson 2

Shortlisting Values

Together, you narrow the cards down to your child's top three or four core values. This lesson opens real conversations: why is this one important to them? Why not that one? It's about understanding their inner world, not just sorting cards.

Lesson 3

The Values Mountain

Using the printable Values Mountain worksheet, your child places each of their core values on the mountain, showing how much they currently live by each one and what they could do to climb higher. A powerful visual they can put on their bedroom wall and return to.

Lesson 4

Reviewing Your Values Regularly

Values grow and change as we do. This lesson teaches your child how to revisit their values mountain every few months, updating it as they grow and making sure they stay connected to what matters to them. This is what makes the change stick long-term.

Printable tools included

  • Values Cards: a full set to print, cut out, and sort together
  • Values Mountain Worksheet: for placing, discussing, and displaying your child's core values
Free Bonus

Strengths Cards Mini Workshop

Included free with the Self-Worth Workshop. I guide you through a separate strengths-identification exercise using a printable strengths cards set. Knowing your strengths builds the same foundation as knowing your values: a clear, grounded sense of who you are. The strengths cards are yours to keep and use again and again.

By the end of the workshop, your child will…

🧭

Know their core values

Not a vague list of nice-sounding words, but a clear, personal shortlist of 3 or 4 values that are genuinely theirs.

🏔️

See where they are and where they want to go

The Values Mountain gives them a visual picture of how well they're currently living by each value, and opens the conversation about what they could do next.

🔄

Have a system they can come back to

This isn't a one-off activity. Your child will know how to review and refresh their values regularly as they grow: a tool for life, not just one afternoon.

You might be wondering…

What age is this suitable for?

The workshop is designed for children aged 8–17. If your child is 8–11, you will want to talk through some of the language together: the concepts are straightforward, but the discussion brings it to life. Teenagers can watch some or all of the lessons independently if they prefer, though watching together is always most powerful. The demonstration I filmed with my 12-year-old niece Pippa gives you a good sense of how it works in practice.

How long does it take?

The workshop itself runs to around 30 minutes of video, plus the bonus strengths mini-workshop. Allow a total of around 45 to 60 minutes if you factor in the exercises, discussion, and printing time. You can also split it across two shorter sessions if that works better for your family.

Do we need to print things out before we start?

Yes. To get the most out of the workshop, you will want to print the values cards and cut them out before you begin, and print the Values Mountain worksheet. The bonus Strengths Cards also need to be printed. These are all included in your download as soon as you purchase. If you can't print ahead, you can still watch the introduction and Lesson 1 while you sort it out.

What if my child doesn't want to do it with me?

Older teenagers can absolutely work through this independently. The workshop speaks directly to the young person at points, so it makes sense as a solo activity. That said, even a resistant teenager often finds the values card exercise surprisingly engaging once they start. You don't need to turn it into a big event. You might just say "I got this thing, want to have a look?" and see what happens. Progress won't be in a straight line, and that's fine.

Is this a one-off or something we can return to?

Definitely something to return to. One of the lessons is specifically about reviewing values regularly, roughly every six months, because values evolve as children grow. The Values Mountain is designed to be revisited and updated. Many families find it becomes part of a regular check-in with their child. You have lifetime access, so you can watch any lesson again whenever you need.

My child already has low self-esteem. Is this right for them?

Yes. This workshop is particularly useful for children who are struggling with self-worth. Understanding and living by their values gives them something stable to hold onto that doesn't depend on external validation. That said, if your child is experiencing significant anxiety, depression, or other mental health difficulties, I'd also encourage you to seek professional support alongside this workshop. It complements clinical work; it doesn't replace it.

Is there a refund policy?

Because this is a digital product with immediate access to all content, I'm not able to offer refunds once the workshop has been accessed. If you have any problems with your order or have questions before you buy, please email [email protected] and I'll be happy to help.

Your child's sense of who they are can be stronger than you think

It starts with knowing what matters to them. This workshop gives you the tools, the structure, and the conversation to make that happen together.
